The 2-fold containerized lysimeter station at Shixia near Beijing was built from 28.06 – 03.07.2010 within a German-Chinese joint project supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, managed by Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research GmbH – UFZ.
The aims of the project “Implementation of a scientific based management system for non-point source pollution control in the Miyun basin“(support code: 02WM1047) concentrate mainly on data collection as foundation for new management strategies for the Miyun basin whose criticality was proven in a former research project.
The two weighable lysimeters with a surface area of 1 m² and a depth of 1,70 m are installed in the middle of spacious maize fields and equipped with suction probe technology, soil moisture probes and tensiometers to get information about the water and nutritional balance of the agricultural used land area mainly affecting the Miyun basin. The soil monoliths are retrieved at the maize fields with already grown plants to include the influence of the plant-root-soil system.
