Clamp dendrometer PDS40 P

The PDS40 P is specially designed for measuring the diameter of small stems or branches in the range of 5 to 40 mm and features a user-friendly design that allows for quick and easy installation. The sensor signal is calibrated directly in millimeters of stem diameter, ensuring precise and reliable measurements. The sensor is attached to the measuring object with three pressure levers, with the central lever moving the rotary position sensor in proportion to the change in object diameter. The contact pressure is adjusted to provide an ideal balance between minimal influence on plant tissue and stable sensor positioning.
To further increase measurement accuracy, the position sensor bearing is carefully designed to minimize the effects of temperature and axial forces. Each sensor is individually calibrated at three measuring points over the entire measuring range to ensure the best possible linearity. In addition, the sensor is waterproof and has an internal temperature measurement in the data logger, which can store up to 50,000 readings. The data logger has a battery life of up to four years at an hourly measurement rate and offers infrared access for data retrieval. With a resolution of one micrometer and an accuracy of 0.5% of full scale, the PDS40 P meets the highest technical requirements. The temperature dependency is better than ±3 µm/K, making it a reliable tool for precise long-term measurements.

Installation notes

The sensor should be mounted on a stem (or branch) that is as straight and evenly shaped as possible, making sure that the cable gland does not touch the object being measured. The cable must be firmly attached to the trunk so as not to affect the position of the sensor.
