UGT Suction probe S15 MINI
UGT Suction probe S15 MINI
UGT Suction probe S15 MINI with ceramic tip, without standpipe, plastic-free
The suction probe S15 MINI is a version of the S14 MINI that has been specially optimized for environmental analysis. It is made entirely of plastic-free components, making it ideal for demanding investigations. Like the S14 MINI, it does without a standpipe and relies on a compact ceramic tip (Ø10 x 25 mm) that is firmly glued into a stainless-steel adapter. This small design is particularly suitable for collecting percolate in small lysimeters.
The use of a Tygon tubing, plastic-free connectors for the stainless-steel adapter and a Luer lock adapter with a veterinary cannula prevents contamination of the samples. The suction tube with Luer lock adapter can be connected to a water stop valve or a UGT connection cap GL4 for a sampling bottle.
The suction probe can be equipped with a stainless-steel standpipe extension of up to 300 mm to enable installation in larger lysimeter vessels with a water pressure-tight sensor feedthrough.
How it works
When a vacuum is applied, the soil water is sucked out of the soil through the suction cup and collected in the connected sampling bottle. The suction probe is suitable for both permanent constant vacuum in combination with a suction probe system and for a single application of a vacuum.
Optionally, you can carry out sampling manually with collection syringes. Use our practical set of 10 collection syringes with locking holders and Luer lock connection.
Application
The plastic-free suction probe S15 is ideal for applications in which contamination by plastics must be excluded. They are particularly suitable for microplastic analyses, pollutant investigations (e.g. pesticides or PAHs), nutrient analyses (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), isotope studies and long-term ecological research. By avoiding plastic materials, they ensure precise and unadulterated results.
Use of a groove auger during installation
For optimal installation of the suction probe in the soil, we recommend using a suitable groove auger. This tool is used to pre-drill a hole with a diameter that is slightly smaller than that of the suction probe. A diameter that is too large can favor preferential flow paths along the suction probe, causing additional water to be directed to the suction cup. This could falsify the measurement results. The appropriate pre-drill not only makes installation easier, but also ensures a proper connection between the suction probe and the surrounding soil, which ensures precise sampling.
