Laboratory device for the extraction of undisturbed soil columns

With this sampling device, you can sample undisturbed soil columns with a diameter of 30 mm from piercing cylinders with a diameter of 120 mm for higher-resolution soil investigations in the laboratory. This enables, among other things, investigations of the mesopore space and root distribution. You can obtain up to three samples (Ø30 mm) simultaneously from one layer of the piercing cylinder.

The piercing cylinders made of acrylic glass are inserted into cutting sleeves made of stainless steel, which pre-cut the soil before it is picked up into the piercing cylinders. The position of the cutting sleeves on their receptacle is adjustable. This allows you to freely select the sampling point on the surface of the piercing cylinder (Ø120 mm). The cutting sleeves are pressed in manually by means of a crank. The sample is pressed out of the large piercing cylinder and into the small piercing cylinders by a punch from below. This allows the specimen to expand outside the small piercing cylinders and prevents disturbances caused by pressure on the small specimens.
