New: Soil Analysis Made Easy

Our TerraElute automates the elution of soils and mineral materials - ideal for analyses required by the Substitute Building Materials Ordinance.

The requirements for testing soils and mineral materials are becoming increasingly demanding. With the UGT TerraElute, we have created a fully automated system for controlled up-flow percolation in the leaching of solid materials, in accordance with DIN 19528, which is applied under the Substitute Building Materials Ordinance (Ersatzbaustoffverordnung, EBV) and the Landfill Ordinance (Deponieverordnung).

Column elution: closer to natural flow conditions

Different leaching methods – batch tests and column tests – can produce different results. This was already a topic at the workshop on elution methods organized by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) and the Commercial Institute for Environmental Analysis (GIU). Recent studies now indicate that column leaching enables a particularly detailed assessment of substance release.

In a batch test, the sample is mixed with water and agitated under defined conditions. In a column test, as used with TerraElute, the eluent flows through a packed sample. This makes it possible to investigate leaching behavior under conditions that more closely resemble natural flow through the material.

This is precisely why standardized and reproducible column leaching is becoming increasingly important. It enables a differentiated assessment of substance release and provides valuable data for evaluating soil materials and mineral substitute building materials.

Further development in 2026

In response to evolving requirements, we have further developed TerraElute. In the future, the system will be available in different sizes and configurations, covering a range of sample quantities and application requirements.
