Talking Tree at Art Basel
Art and science, hand in hand – to show the importance and beauty of trees. What a special kind of project that our colleague Dr. Laura Stratópoulos led.
The Swiss artist duo 697 THz used our Talking Tree installation at Art Basel to portray trees as dynamic, living beings – breathing, consuming water, and interacting with their environment.
The Japanese Pagoda tree is located in the Enea Tree Museum of Enea Landscape Architecture in Rapperswil-Jona. The artists Sara Kieffer and Lucien Mike Woodtli transformed real-time scientific data from our sensors into their stunning visual and audio experience "Arboreal Serenade" on a massive display.
In 2024 we already equipped a tree for the artist duo. The story behind: An old chestnut tree was saved by Enea Landscape Architecture from being felled. It originally stood in a small village where it served as a “Messenger Tree” for decades – locals pinned notes, messages, and announcements to it.
Now, the tree still speaks – just in a different way: it shows us how it’s feeling, what it needs, and how it supports us, for example by providing cooling and storing carbon. So important for us and our environment - especially regarding the high temperatures and the climatechange.
We're proud to have contributed to this inspiring and creative project and wish Sara and Lucien all the best for their future work!
