Soil sample rings

The rings allow largely undisturbed soil sampling. The original bedding and structure of the soil is preserved in the sample. The least possible influence on the soil structure during sampling is a decisive quality criterion, especially for soil physical investigations, as well as for investigations regarding the water and material balance.

Samples in sample rings

Soil samples of specific volume are taken with cylinders while largely preserving the soil structure. The cylinder is driven into the soil and the soil sample is separated from the surrounding soil. Subsequently, the closed soil sample ring is transported as gently as possible. The volume of the driven-in ring leads to compaction of the soil in the edge area. The smaller the wall thickness of the cylinder and the larger the volume of the soil sample, the smaller the influence of compaction. The rings are usually driven into the soil with a hammer. The resulting vibrations can lead to changes in the sample structure. In very dry, hard soils, it is not possible to take soil ring samples because the cylinder cannot be driven in.

Physical and chemical parameters can be determined on the cylinder samples. In addition, soil parameters such as pore volume or hydraulic conductivity can be determined in laboratory tests.

We offer soil sample rings made of stainless steel and acrylic in different sizes. The cylinders are also suitable for some of our devices, e.g. for the "mobile device for the sampling of undisturbed soil columns" or the "laboratory device for the sampling of undisturbed soil columns" or for our ku-pF apparatus. Appropriate accessories facilitate the usually physically heavy work of sampling and improve the quality of the samples.
