The UGT Multiplexer MX16 enables the automated analysis of gas samples from multiple sources using a connected gas analyzer. A central multi-position valve controls the gas flow and switches the connected gas sources or gas paths according to the selected operating mode.

The 16-port configurations can be customized to meet different requirements for gas routing and sampling. The variants presented here include the standard MX16-FT, the MX16-CF Continuous Flow variant with 13 sampling and 3 reference inlets, and the MX16-CL Closed Loop variant. For extensive measurement tasks, multiple multiplexers can be operated in parallel.

* When operated in parallel, one position per multiplexer remains closed and serves as a parking position. Up to five multiplexers can therefore provide up to 75 sampling positions for automated measurements.

Variants

MX16-FT – Flow-Through Standard Variant

The standard configuration provides 16 positions for gas sources. The sampling lines are not continuously flushed. The gas sources are sequentially switched to the gas analyzer, where the gas sample is measured and subsequently discharged. The gas sample is drawn through the system by the pump of the connected gas analyzer.

MX16-CF – Continuous Flow Variant

This customized configuration provides 13 sampling inlets and 3 reference inlets and operates in continuous-flow mode. Unlike the other variants, the MX16-CF features a pump integrated directly into the multiplexer. The pump continuously draws gas through all 13 sampling lines. Gas streams that are not currently selected are discharged via the exhaust outlet, while the multi-position valve switches the selected gas source to the gas analyzer. As a result, the current gas sample is continuously present at the multi-position valve and can be routed directly to the gas analyzer when the respective gas source is selected.

Each of the 13 sampling inlets is equipped with a variable-area flow meter for monitoring the gas flow. The three reference inlets are not equipped with flow meters and can, for example, be used to supply gases with a known composition for calibration of the connected gas analyzer.

MX16-CL – Closed Loop Variant

The Closed Loop configuration provides separate inlet and return connections for the connected gas sources. The gas sample is drawn through the system by the pump of the connected gas analyzer, measured, and then returned to the respective gas source via the return line, where it is recirculated in a closed loop.

In addition, this variant features 16 × 8-pin connectors, each with separate electrical protection. These connectors provide power supply, control signals, and data communication for smart UGT measurement chambers, including the connected sensors.
